I have an idea about the interior of the Institute which I thought I'd run by you spiffy Mod people. If you've already decided what it looks like, don't worry about it... but I think this is quite a neat idea. And I don't often think that about my ideas.
So... the interior. This is actually two ideas, which could work seperately or, with a little tweaking, together:
1. When the building was originally made, before the fire, it was built at length over several years, and drawing from many different inspirations. Then when it was rebuilt, this style was copied in honour of the original building. The result being that the interior (and perhaps parts of the exterior as well) would be in a mixture of styles: one could walk from a colonial-style room, down a stainless-steel corridor with futuristic decorations, into another room with open fireplaces, flagstones and deep rugs. This could also extend to different cultures, creating, say, a room like a Japanese pagoda leading to a walk-in freezer that looks for all the world like an igloo.
2. The decorations and even weather and atmosphere could alter according to someone's personality, preferences and mood. The room would retain its basic characteristics, but for example, the chairs could appear to be polkadot beanbags to one person and luxurious chaise-lounges to another; a room that seems bright and airy to a cheerful person could become close, dark and looming to a scared or guilty person. That would be some interesting magic, as well as lending fun opportunities for atmosphere and misunderstandings among people unused to this effect in the roleplay itself.
